At Early Bird Cafe, we know that community is built on kindness, generosity, and working together. Every morning, we see first-hand how the support of other dedicated organisations helps us care for our customers—meeting not only the need for a good breakfast, but also for dignity, health, and connection.
We are especially grateful to St Stephen’s Uniting Church, who generously welcome us into their beautiful Macquarie Street premises. Their ongoing support, care, and encouragement—along with the many ways their congregation members volunteer and make generous financial contributions—help make it possible for us to serve the community in a safe and welcoming space.
We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to some of the amazing services who regularly join us at St Stephen’s. Their presence makes a real, tangible difference in people’s lives, and our customers often tell us just how much these services mean to them.
St Vincent’s Hospital Homelessness Outreach Service
Each Thursday morning, the St Vincent’s Homeless Health Service arrives with their Integrated Care Mobile Clinic van. Their dedicated team provides essential healthcare to people sleeping rough or doing it tough, helping address immediate medical needs and connect individuals with ongoing support.
“I’d been putting off getting this sore on my leg looked at for weeks,” says one of our regulars. “Having the St Vincent’s van here means I can get it checked without having to find my way to a clinic. They really care and don’t judge.”
This service breaks down barriers to healthcare, offering treatment, advice, and a friendly face in an environment where people feel safe.
Orange Sky Laundry
Every Tuesday, Orange Sky rolls in with their mobile laundry service, offering free washing and drying for our customers’ clothes. But it’s more than clean clothes—it’s about restoring dignity and providing a space for genuine conversation.
“Wearing fresh clothes changes your whole day,” says one customer. “It’s not just about looking clean; it’s about feeling human again.”
The friendly Orange Sky team always bring warmth and positivity, sharing chats while the machines whirr away. For many, these conversations are just as valuable as the laundry service itself.
Thread Together
Once a month, we welcome Thread Together, who provide brand-new clothing and shoes to people in need. Their approach is simple but powerful—offering fresh, quality clothing that helps our guests feel comfortable, confident, and valued.
“I got a pair of shoes from Thread Together last month,” shares a customer. “They were the first new shoes I’ve owned in years. Every time I put them on, I feel like I can take on the world.”
For people who have few possessions, receiving something brand new—chosen just for them—can be a reminder of their worth and dignity.
