Every morning before the city wakes, a small army of volunteers arrives at Early Bird Café. Breakfast is cooked, tea and coffee prepared, and a welcoming space is prepared for the hundreds of people who rely on our service.
While many people think of Early Bird Café as a breakfast service, what they may not realise is that it runs thanks to an extraordinary network of corporate, community and volunteer teams who donate their time, energy and generosity.
Without these groups, Early Bird Café simply could not operate six mornings a week.
Corporate teams making a difference
A growing number of businesses across Sydney have chosen to support Early Bird Café by allowing their staff to volunteer for early morning breakfast shifts. These teams step in to help prepare and serve meals, and connect with our customers.
Regular volunteer groups currently include teams from:
- St Stephen’s Church
- Sydney Cove Rotary
- Soul Patts
- EY
- Deloitte
- Architectus
- TSA Riley
- Jefferies
- Endeavour Group
- Woolworths
- AVID
- Diligent
- Plenary
- Mirvac
- ALTUS
- Stantec
- CBRE
New teams are also joining the Early Bird Café community, with Design & Build and Public Sector People preparing to begin volunteering soon.
In addition, other organisations such as UBS and Charter Hall regularly step in to help on selected mornings when extra support is needed.
These teams bring more than just helping hands. They bring enthusiasm, compassion and a willingness to engage with the community in a meaningful way.
For many corporate volunteers, spending a morning at Early Bird Café becomes one of the most rewarding experiences their team shares together.
The supporters who keep our pantry stocked
Alongside our volunteer teams, several long-standing corporate supporters help ensure that every breakfast can be served.
These partners generously provide essential food and supplies, including:
- Kellogg’s (Kellanova) – cereals
- Nestlé – Nescafé coffee
- Bakers Delight – fresh bread
- Gift of Bread – bread donations
- One Tin Meals – frozen meals
- Plate It Forward – frozen meals
- Luccia’s Kitchen – frozen meals
- NSW Parliament House – excess catering
Another long-time supporter, Brookfield, has provided ongoing assistance and kindness to Early Bird Café for more than a decade.
These contributions make an enormous difference. By providing staple ingredients and meals, our partners help ensure that donations can go further and more people can be supported each morning.
The volunteers who return week after week
While corporate groups provide essential support, Early Bird Café is also powered by dedicated teams of individual volunteers who show up week after week.
Our Monday, Wednesday and Saturday teams are made up of individuals from across the community who commit their time to helping others. Many have been volunteering with Early Bird Café for years.
Their consistency, reliability and generosity form the backbone of the service.
Together with our corporate partners, they create a welcoming environment where everyone who visits the café is treated with dignity and respect.
Could your team join us?
As demand for our service continues to grow, we are always looking for more organisations to join the Early Bird Café community.
Corporate volunteering mornings are a powerful way for teams to give back, build connections and see firsthand the impact of community support.
Whether it’s a regular volunteer commitment or a one-off team morning, your organisation can help ensure that hundreds of people start their day with a good breakfast and a friendly welcome.
If your workplace, community group or organisation would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you.
Get in touch to volunteer with your team.
Together, we can keep the breakfasts coming and ensure Early Bird Café remains a place of connection, dignity and care for everyone who walks through our doors.
